Asking questions is a good thing, and you should definitely understand all of your treatment options. There are a lot of misconceptions and misunderstandings about hypnosis, and I have found that people often have unnecessary fear about it.
I think that much of this is due to the belief that a person will no longer be in control of their own thoughts/ideas/feelings/behaviors. This couldn't be any further from the truth.
In order to find comfort with hypnosis, my suggestion is to first make sure to find a reputable clinician who is a member of an organization that demands strict adherence to evidence-based treatments and ethical guidelines.
I am a member of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) that requires a level of education and expertise to be included. I stay on top of the latest research and work within my scope of practice.
Just like engaging in those activities does not alarm you, you should know that you are very safe while engaging in hypnosis (as long as you are not driving or doing something that demands your full awareness).

Once you find comfort with your therapist and their background and training, learn the facts about hypnosis, and ask all the questions you need with answers that leave you satisfied, you should find yourself completely relaxed and comfortable with the process knowing you are safe and in very good hands.
